Exploring bell hooks for the first time was like hearing my heart speak outside myself.
Before all about love, I remember being 19 or 20 and waking up from what felt like a lifelong sleep, shaken awake by realizations about Love's central role in our cosmic existence. Love was the key to a door of understanding. What had before been girlish notions of important love being reserved only for romantic connections became a more complete Loving world.
My truest pursuit in life was realized.
When all about love happened, everything made more sense. All the fragments of actualization I had been collecting fell into place.
I listened to it on audiobook and hooks often had me rewinding lines and talking back like she was a good friend speaking facts - whispering “word” to myself while her prose played through my tangled wire headphones on the A train. It was new to me, of course, but it was in a voice of a familiar warmth.
There were a few times that hooks shared insights about Love, and to my surprise, I had already unearthed similar discoveries in my own considerations. It's like through mindfulness we can all sip from a shared well of knowledge.
Prodigal Child, in its essence, is a creative manifestation of Love. It is a medium where I can share my Love with the world. Creation in this endeavor has often felt like light beaming through me. It surrounds me when I talk about it.
